Amazon Echo

[link to this post]

Last few days my Amazon Echo has been losing signal and cutting out getting the red ring of death. I bought it in Mar 2018 so it is out of warranty. I have performed a factory reset on it and it was ok for a couple of days then lost signal. Quickest way to restore was a power off and on. It is downstairs in the kitchen and my router upstairs on 5ghz band, it will connect on 2.4ghz band too but that is rather congested round here. Which is the best band for going through ceiling? My downstairs PC is near the echo and on 5ghz with a Asus dongle and seems to stay connected.

Isn't there a minimum warranty in the EU of 2 years?

I think so but according to the Amazon order page the warranty is 1 year limited.

Just as a temporary test have you tried moving the Amazon Echo next to the router?

Totally understand but I was thinking two things

1) Maybe the Amazon Echo does have a fault but if you can find a way to work around it may save you buying a new one.

or

2) Something may have changed that is not related to the Amazon Echo

In my house 2.4Ghz is better at going through walls than 5Ghz. I always thought the low the frequency the better at passing through walls.

The Amazon warranty says it is in addition to standard consumer rights. I think we have the same rights as the rest of the EU and therefore should be covered for 2 years by default. Amazon are usually pretty good so I would recommend dropping them a line and see what they say.

So it went off again tonight so I have changed it to the 2.4ghz band. Funny how it has just started happening on a night time, unless someone else has 5ghz recently. Will monitor.
