Overclocking an Intel E2180

[link to this post]

Anyone tried it. Think I got to 2.5Ghz from 2Ghz once. Ran for a few months but decided to drop back to 2Ghz as couldn't really notice any difference in the OS.

I thought the days of overclocking had long gone unless you are a gamer and even then a lot don't bother?

Computers are so fast these days that overclocking is not going to really be noticeable.

No need to overclock with modern CPU's plus overclocking puts a lot of strain on your CPU potentially shortening its life span.

I don’t think that anyone would describe the E2180 as modern. It was around before the earliest i3.

2007, nope that is certainly not modern, that is older than mine by 10 years smile

I don't really keep up with intel stuff, i had to look up how old that chip was. I don't keep up with AMD these days.

I used to overclock in the socket 7 days, but to be honest, never found it much good.

i did think about getting some new bits for my PC yesterday in the Amazon Prime Day sale, but changed my mind, I looked at a new CPU, motherboard and memory, but the machine is doing what i need, ok I do have some problems with it, but at the moment it is ok.
The problem is I still have a NVMe drive that I can't do anything with yet.,

i've put 2tb nvme storage unit into a b450 with ryzen 4350 pro. Honestly if the mobo has an upto date bios it should work if not just get a cheapie 450 or 550 board and swap.

Never tried overclocking a CPU, only a couple of GPUs for a distributed computing project I was involved with for a while. (Worked fine so long as the weather didn't get too hot!)

A quick look on the Overclockers forum suggests you should be able to get an extra 50% out of it (memory speed permitting).

Even better reason not to overclock it then, why stress out an older chip...same applies to people
