It has the latest firmware, i don't think they have updated it for a few years.
i got the new Asus one today, oh my goodness, it looks and feels so flimsy. Need to be very careful with as it is so light and the drawer is heavier than the drive, so it will fall off the table if not careful. It is not mechanical, the drawer will just pop open, and I have to pull it out the rest of the way, just like the ones in laptops. There is a light that really does nothing.
The unit is an Asus, but I think it is a pioneer drive.
It seems to work ok, used it on the mac, boy is it strange using an Optical drive on a Mac and used it in Windows and it works fine. Lack of software for the Mac for optical drives.
MacOs have the facility to erase and burn files and I tried to drive on the PC and it read them and burnt files using Windows and the Mac read them, so that works ok.
I know that optical drives is old hat these days, but I still like them.
£117 for the drive is a fair bit for what it is, where internal ones are about £80. Oh well it will do the job, at least it came with two USB cables, one Micro USB B to a double USB A, one of ther A is for power only, the other cable is Micro USB B to USB c, that is the one that is used on the mac.
Works fine from the back of the mac, but not using the usb C on the front of the hub., Very strange.,
I just wish it did not feel so tacky and the fingerprints after touching it, oh good grief.
