should have looked harder.

Yesterday I ordered a Crucial P3 Plus SSD 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4 NVMe from Amazon for £114, my PC drive 256GB NVMe is full, so well I did not really want to spend any money on it at the moment, thought I better buy a larger drive.

Now I had a look on Amazon, and they have aWD_BLACK SN770 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD, M.2 2280 NVMe for £97.98, both gen 4, not that it will make any difference in my PC, but I am thinking of updating it next year so will matter than.

A Verbatim VI5000 2TB SSD M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe for £89

A WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD, M.2 2280 NVMe with higher read speeds for £139.

Sometimes pays to look further than order the first one. I don't normally order the first one. Oh, well. I could send it back, but it is a hassle.

All good prices for what they are, a few years ago my 256GB one cost that much.

Well, I got it, opened up the box and no drive, the box had been opened. All that was in the box was the plastic packaging and the instructions.
so getting a replacment and sending the empty box back.

Someone had nabbed it, in the warehouse or somewhere alone the line

I had the same happen to me when I ordered a bunch of Crucial P3 Plus 4TB sticks from Amazon in July 2023. Delivered to my local Amazon locker too. The Crucial seals had been sliced / boxes had clearly been opened and the sticks were gone.

To be fair, Amazon were very good and refunded me the full amount 2 days later. I don't think I was the first or last person that had that happen.

At that point I was very wary of "rinse and repeating" the exercise with Amazon, as it seemed they had a bad seed somewhere in their supply chain, so I ordered the same items from eBuyer.

it seems to be the better scam than it disappearing between amazon warehouses and you. Because it puts the blame and also its harder to disprove it was you.

I did worry that they might think I had pinched it and sent the box back, after all there is no way to prove I did not.
Ok, so I did want a replacement and not a refund, so that maybe helped.

Still sat on the shelf at the moment as it did not work on the computer, it seems my old PC can not cope with it. It does work, as I tried it in the Mac dock. It seems my PC don't like the higher capacity.
I am looking at updating the PC, so I will use it then.

With my well documented lighning strike, my underfloor heating controller was fried.

I then ordered a replacement with other parts and on arrival the controller box was still in the original manufacturer shrink wrap. Called the supplier and videoed opening the case. Guess what ... no controller board.

Company then sent a replacement, no problem, and when it arrived the package felt light so I again videoed opening the package, then case - no control board again. Called the supplier and they could not believe it - they did not doubt me but found te missing board hard to comprehend.

They investigated. When a new batch of cases had arrived, teh storeman though they looked teh same as some already on the shelf, so he added them, not realising the new were empty and those on the shelf had control boards inside. The picker, unknowingly chose the empty one for me, TWICE.

How?
I put it in, even put the one that is in my Mac hub, which is a higher capacity, but a lower spec and that would not work.
I reset the bios, just in case, but the computer will not post. The screen comes up with press what ever to enter boot menu and UEFI, but when you press one of the function keys it does nothing, the computer just hangs. I left if for 30 minutes once, still nothing.

You and I both with our lightning strike stories eh!! 😅

I hope to never go through that ‘mare again and learnt a lot of lessons, like how the heck some stuff gets fried and other stuff remains unscathed. In my case it was the expensive and awkward to replace that took most of the hits. It was a black day!! 🥲

Back to deliveries, I’m not sure I ever shared with the forum my fake Apple iPhone story. That was a beauty indeed. I still have it here - Apple UK didn’t want “it” back but it was externally an almost perfect replica of iPhone 15 Pro Max I’ve seen. Right down to the box and even the fake software was quite believable - up to a point.

If anyone cares I can post photos and / or videos. There was one other guy who posted about an identical experience on Reddit at near the same time as me. Quite where along the supply chain they made the swap I’ll never know an Apple will never tell me - but they did send me a complete new real iPhone (eventually).
