graphics card v CPU built in graphics.

[link to this post]

I think my old PC is on its last legs, since I only use it for a few games I don;lt really want to spend too much on it.
so looking at CPUs and saw the AMD Ryzen 5 8500G for around £160, thought being new, the GPU would be better than my old AMD Radeon RX5700,
I was shocked to see that it was not, i know it is a mobile GPU built in, but I thought, after all these years, they would have improved. I suppose they have, just not enough
My sapphire AMD RX 5700 will be 6 years old in October , it has 8GB of GDDR6 ram and supports PCIe 4, so never really ran to it's full speed on my machine, which uses a AMD R7 1700

So by the seems of it, I am best to keep using the video card and replace the board, CPU and the memory if I go for DDR5.

I could go for a AM4 based board, but the memory in the machine is 2666 and even CPUs running on the AM4 socket needs more than that these days.

i don't want to spend a lot, a AMD Ryzen 5 would still be better than my old CPU.
So hard to decide.

If it was not for games, I would not even bother with it at all.

i wouldn't have got the 8500g, either the 8600g or the 8700g or wait a few months for the 9000g series .

The 8500g is crippled compared to the other 8xxxG chips

I have not got anything yet, just deciding what to do.
I don't think I will bother with built-in video, my old card seems to still be better than built in graphics.

May go for AMD Ryzen 5 7600 and a Asrock board as I have used Asrock for years,
As I said, I don't want to spend a lot as it will only be used for a few games, I use the mac for everything else.

Now all the SATAS apart from the Blu-ray Writer have vanished, very strange,

I tried that.

I think I found the problem, the very first SSD I had the corsair force 3 120GB drive have given up and for some reason stopped the computer recognising the others. I put it on a USB to Sata connector and connected it to the mac and nothing, so the old faithful have died, not bad for 14 years, that is scary.
The drive have been used for a lot of things, including sticking Linux on it and other OS to muck around with, so been written to time and time again, but i think it is an electrical problem as it don't even show up.

Not going to replace it, I have enough drives in the machine,

now got to decide what to do about the computer itself, what ever I do I expect it will be the last update, I said that before, but then I used to use it as my main driver, I don't now.

Maybe look at bundles.

Your RX5700 is faster than an RTX 3050 8GB, which sells for £170

So it isn't that surprising that the bonus GPU on the £130 CPU is a lot slower (several places have it at £130)

(and an RTX 5050 is only about 40% faster than your RX5700, those are £220)

I expect I will just go for a normal CPU when I do decide to update, but at the moment, the machine is working okay now, apart from the sound not wanting to come out of the rear speakers, but I think that is a setting problem, I will remove the drivers and start again for the card.
Now the machine is working, I am in no rush to replace it, maybe next year if it keeps going until then.

I just don't want to spend money on a PC, but I do like some of the games I play on it.

Check your motherboard's website for the semi latest drivers, if you are using windows. If its gigabyte check the later models for the latest realtek drivers.

It is not sound on the motherboard, it is a Asus xonar. But thanks anyway
