New to IDNET and need some help, please!

[link to this post]

Hello, I have just signed up with IDNet and cannot work out how to get it all up and running. I was with e7even and they supplied me with a safecom modem router model samr-4114.

When I initially called IDNet sales two weeks ago, I explained that I am not at all technically adept and would need a lot of help setting up the broadband service. I told IDNet that I already have a safecome router which worked well and they said - "no problem, we will help you set it all up once your service is activated".

However. . . . .IDNet sent me an email on Friday evening saying my service was now available and I called them today just after 9am. Their support centre was busy and I was told they would call me back within the hour. After over an hour I did not get a call, so phoned them again and was put through to Adam. Now I heard a very different story to the one I was told when I signed up. Adam said he could not help me configure the safecom router as it was not one they supplied and he suggested I called safecom (who happen to be in Singapore, or somewhere equally distant). I explained about my conversation with his sales department and he was not helpful.

I don't want to have to pay someone to come to the house to set it up, as I know it is not that difficult, I just need someone to talk me through it and I am really disappointed that IDNet cannot do this, especially after the sales guy saying it would not be a problem and they would be able to help me.

Sorry, if I am sounding a bit emotional here! Just excited and now disappointed!

Is it possible to set up my broadband myself even though I do not understand how to without help, or do I need to call in a computer guy to the house?

E7ven (in the good old days when they actually responded to customers' calls) talked me through my set up with them, although, of course, they did supply the router, so would be familiar with it.

I am really surprised how unhelpful IDNet have been this morning after reading all the positive comments on here about their customer service.

My safecom router has an ip address a user name and a password on the underside, is this related to e7even or is it independent and should I be able to use this to do whatever I need to, to make broadband work?.

If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. I am very much 'kindergarten' with tech computer stuff, so probably need simple instructions.

Sad little Moneypennie.

Hi Moneypennie,

Sorry to hear you are having problems setting up your router to connect to IDNet have you looked at the following Safecom web site: - http://safecom.cn/code/product/adsl/samr-4112/qig.htm where there is a quick set up guide for your router you may find the answer to your problem there.

OK, so I take it you can't connect to your IDNet connection mate.

Enter that ip address in the address bar. I think its '10.0.0.2', but I just got that from portforward.com. Login with the username and password, when prompted.

Then you will be logged onto the router admin area. Is the page similar to this?

Hi Kuja,

IdNet called me and Miriam talked me through it - it was really easy and now it is all working okay.

I do apologise for the impulsive reaction; and it seems that IDNet are all everyone has said and more.

It's a bit too early for a g&t, so I'll go and have a coffee instead!

Thanks very much for your help, Kuja.

Hi Sheltie,

All sorted now! IDNet called me again and Miriam in their support centre talked me through the set up. It was really easy.

What a relief! I think the nerves must still be a bit raw after the e7even drama.

I do apologise for the impulsive posting! Any thank you very much for your response; it is good to know that help is here on the ADSLguide.

Very happy Moneypennie.

Welcome aboard! Several ex-e7ers moved to IDnet, myself included.
