Migrating from Eclipse - IDNet or NewNet?

Hi,

I'm looking to migrate away from Eclipse. I've been suffering from very variable download speeds (anywhere from 20k per sec all the way upto 700k per sec) and I think it's time to try another ISP, even though the fault is quite possibly with BT and my overloaded local exchange.

I'm a fairly low bandwidth user - almost exclusively browsing (with a bit of youtube) and online gaming. Plus some infrequent large-ish downloads of game demos, or Steam game purchases. So probably < 10gb pm. Responsiveness and low pings are my criteria for success.

Currently I've narrowed my choice down to IDNet and NewNet. (Though I'm open to other suggestions)

Idnet without a doubt. If you read this forum you will see that the support is 2nd to none. In fact they don't go to bed.

Stay with Eclipse I don't want you using my bandwidth..... only kidding. I would go for IDNet, but then again I'm slightly biased

If you want professional customer service from people who know what they're talking about then there is no substitute!

Idnet are a no nonsence isp im my opinion and dont offer all the little goodies that other isp's do.

I made the move from virgin and was looking for a isp with stable connections and good cs infact i called idnet to ask about my usage (because im a gamer) a nice lady answered the phone and said i will get some one to call you back within the hour (what???? this is a isp they dont do things like that surely). Anyways the call came and the guy (who was so helpful and in this day and age "spoke english" im sorry to add that bit but ive had problems understanding people in the past) reasured me that what i needed would be provided by idnet and i havent looked back.

So if you want a no frills reliable connection with good 24/7 support then idnet will be for you.

Im sure your router will be fine and will only need the user name and password changing when you move (if it aint broke then dont fix it). Oh and before i forget my pings are brilliant

However out of the two I would say Idnet seem to have had more routing/dns/ping issues of late looking through the posts in the Idnet forum. Maybe a sign they are starting to feel the pressure of all the new users they've aquired this past 10 months.

I read a few people had ping issues before when they were playing World of Warcraft because quite a few people from Nildram moved over to IDNet looking for better pings. However I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a regular occurence. Newnet seem to be having speed issues though and I can say that my speeds with IDNet are very good indeed.

No one can make up your mind for you though, go with your gutt instinct. Have you looked at the reviews on dslzoneuk.net too?

That's just my opinion anyway, I don't play many games online so that wasn't really a defining factor for me although I know it is for many.

My gut instinct right now is to try IDnet ... if there's no difference compared to Eclipse then I'll go to Newnet (perhaps) to get the cost back down.

If I go to NewNet first then I might 'strike it lucky' and be happy, but I suspect I'd always be wondering if IDnet would've been even better - so I'm thinking 'try the best first' I don't think

If your worried about the cost i would suggest goin with newnet first and see how you get on, idnet wont go away so if things dont work out then you have that option avalible to you.

In reference to the pings, i play city of heroes/villains and for a MMO the pings i get are around 120-140 mark which is perfectly normal for that game. I hear some people are getting lower pings for WoW but it really depends on where the servers aer based.

Also the pings i get for bf2142 are around 15-19 mark for uk servers.

Well I've just requested my MAC from Eclipse. Three years I've been with them... up until April this year I'd have recommended them.

So... I've got 5 days to make up my mind.
