High pings/ sluggish speeds

[link to this post]

Anybody else suffering high pings coupled with degraded speeds today? Disconnecting from IDNet (not the DSL service) has increased speed, albeit not to my norm, but pings are still sky high- up to 300 ms.

EDIT: Currently downloading at 50% my usual speed with pings ash igh as 338 ms.

Yes, my Pings are 5 times higher than normal, and I am unable to use FTP at the moment.

What is going on with IDNet? I am going give them a ring.

Update: I just called them, they dis-connected and then re-connected which clears the session on the pipe, seems to be working fine now at the moment.

Still no better for me and I'm quite alarmed at getting readings like this at this time of the day:

Can't do any serious gaming ... record ping achieved last night, 540ms ... ooh-err laugh

A power cycle sometimes rectifies the problem for an hour or so.

Edit: Hey, perhaps this is of use to high ping sufferers, it has indeed improved mine it seems (W7). Just extract and run set-up, safe as houses: http://www.simtel.net/product.php%5Bid%5D114698%5BSi...

iDNet have only just moved over to their new Hostlink which provides a massive increase in capacity and should also improve pings. It was delivered by BT a mere 16 months late....

A router reboot should move you across to the new link automatically, but it my case it failed and, a forced disconnect at the exchange was needed.

If following the reboot anybody still has any problems, contact support on their Freephone number 0800 701 2000
Costs you nothing and, they're usually pretty good at sorting problems.

Well I'm absolutely chuffed, ping on my 2.52km-from-exchange-line is always under 40ms to main gaming server. I'm even pinging to the States @ under 100ms at times, now this NEVER happens smile

Things obviously back to normal .... been with IDNet 4 years and frankly, I shouldn't complain is I've sorta had a couple of weeks inconvenience out of over 200 which equates to being >99% happy with service.

I'll crawl back into my hole and pop up next time I wanna complain laugh

My pings have always been pretty consistent around the 28/30ms mark. Following the reboot which was supposed to move me over to the new hostlink they shot up to 100ms plus. I mentioned it over on the iDNetters forum and, before I could ring support, Simon (one of the MDs), rang me. After he forced a disconnect at the exchange, I rebooted at my end which forced me over to the new Hostlink and, pings returned to normal.

That's what I call service smile

Pings are still averaging 29.6ms, which is in the normal range for me.

Re my post here:-

I'd be really grateful of those who are with Idnet and are online gamers could keep an eye on their pings/latency and see if they remain stable.
