BT Work 9th September

[link to this post]

A user over on Netters posted the following information from the website of another ISP:

BT Planned Maintenance - 21CN (ADSL2 )
BT have advised us of planned maintenance that will affect customers country-wide on most ISPs.
This work is required so that BT can carry out hardware upgrades.
BT advise that some customers may have outages up to 4 hours and should only affect BT-based Home and Office services on the 21CN network.
Start Time: 12:00am, 9th September 2010
End Time: 7:00am, 9th September 2010

Can IDNet provide any further information about (i) the nature of the outages; (ii) who is likely to be hit. (For example, my exchange was upgraded to 21CN in March 09. Are exchanges that are not yet upgraded not affected?)

At least the work is taking place in the wee small hours but could IDNet keep us all up to date with proceedings as far as that's possible when dealing with BT?

I'd suggest you drop support an email, things have been a bit busy for the past couple of days. They may not have any extra information, though, the wording suggests anyone, anywhere, could, or maybe will, be hit.

Ah, now there's the rub... BT will (sometimes) give detailed information about outages and areas affected.

Afterwards frown

It's possibly worth pointing out that the advice is to turn off routers overnight, all users will be affected, not just ADSL2+. If the router is left on, and won't connect in the morning, power down for 30 minutes then try again before calling IDNet.

Is it true that the BT work was not carried during the early hours of 9/9/2010 after all?

No-one's reported any signs of it, or of any downtime. BT will now probably do it without telling anyone. wink

I know, but what we don't know, Alf, is whether they did the work but managed it without cutting people off, or whether they simply didn't do it...
