The two products are more or less the same; the Home Max product uses MaxDSL, which can provide a speed of up to 8Mbps,
but can be unstable if you are a long way from the exchange or have a lot of interference on the line.
The Home 2000 uses a fixed speed connection at the highest speed your line will support, up to a maximum of 2Mbps.
The Home 2000 product
will be slower than the Home Max, but may well be more stable. It will almost certainly provide a more consistent speed as well- my Max connection is stable in that it rarely drops out, but BT contention means that the speeds I get go up and down like nobody's business.
Have you tried checking your phone number against one of the usual sites, eg
here?

We often think that when we have completed our study of one
we know all about two
, because 'two' is 'one and one'. We forget that we still have to make a study of 'and'. - Arthur Stanley Eddington
