You could join an ISP who would give you a different router or you could join an ISP who would take you off Max. Obvious really.

Changing modems/routers won't miraculously improve a bad line, and IDNet will move you back onto a fixed speed line if Max isn't satisfactory.

Using a router instead of a modem might well improve matters, but it's not a certainty.

Changing a bad modem for a good router will improve a poor connection. Some modems are notoriously bad and some routers are good at holding connections over bad lines. Not all routers and modems are equal.

just one point i have aways used this modem never had any prob was on 8meg max on ace was aways on never went off day or nite changed ip because ace was capping speed before any on say why i moved to here

Sounds like it's the ISP then, doesn't it.

You still haven't said whether you are losing sync (a BT problem) or just losing the connection to IDNet (probably an IDNet problem). Without that piece of information, there's not much to go on...

That doesn't tell us anything...There are two ways you can lose your internet connection- you can lose synchronisation with the ADSL signals provided by BT, or you can lose your PPPoA connection to IDNet- in effect, you get logged off.

The first is down to BT, or possibly your modem, the second is probably down to IDNet in some way (but could still be BT). But without knowing which, we can't take it any further.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to get the relevant information from your modem, but it should be in the manual somewhere.

well all i no it just goes off no net at all some times getting error code 680 like i said before had this modem a few years now done all the upgrades for it was on ace 8meg max a few month back never had a prob then allways stop on day or nite its just done it again it comes up with icon sign in

Sorry, I can't help further. I'd suggest you look up the error code in whatever documentation you have and, if you can, try another modem (or better, a router).

Electronic kit doesn't last forever, and it could be slowly turning its toes up. It happens.
