How much bandwidth does gaming use?

[link to this post]

Hey there,

After years of not getting involved with online gaming in any big way, I have just started to play Combat Flight Sim 3 online, with IDnet I have quite a tight monthly dl limit, what I need to know is how much playing online games like CFS will impact my bw. Will hosting games use more than joining other games?

This particularly an issue as I just discovered that my WiFI Access point defaulted to 'open ' after a power outage and someone has been leaching my bbandwidth! :-(

Can't help with the gaming bandwidth, but
In reply to:

after a power outage

you need a UPS...

It won't run your PC for long, but it allows it to shut down gracefully.

ooooo! I have been out of the industry for too long, there never used to be a sensible UPS option for the home user, but I am now turning green with envy and going purple at the knees at the thought of others having such a groovy device. Now I just need to wait for that CofE grant.....

Thanks

Glad to help- it's not a bad little unit.

It's carried me across a few brief outages, but hasn't yet had the full test...

Online gaming usually expends about 15 Mb per hour ... surfing about 6Mb per hour. Downloads are yer own business

I am a pretty heavy gamer and surfer but not very heavy on downloads and get through probably just over 2Gb on average.

Surfing happily with IDNet.

Thanks guys,

That's pretty helpful. think I am going to hit the BW limit this month, but that is partly down to me not keeping tabs enough onmy Access Point!

Should stay under next as long as I can resist jumping in my Spitfire occassionally :-D
