IPv6

[link to this post]

Do IDNet currently support, or have a timetable for supporting, IPv6?

Not on IDnet, but i am using the entanet network, where some people have been using IPv6, the problem here is that it is not worth bothering with at the moment as any Router/modem that supports IPv6 are very expensive and they are few in numbers.

I never understood why Entanet started bothering with it. I know that ISPs will have to start using it internally, in fact I think it is already being used, but no advantage for Joe public at the moment.

Adrian

Now on the entanet network with ADSL24

What is this button for?

Yes I know

But I think I may need a new router soon, and if IDNet don't support IPv6 yet then I'll get a cheapie, if they do I'll think about a Cisco...

Hi Bill

We have started to deploy IPv6 through our core network but rolling it out to our subscriber base is probably a while away yet.

Cheers
Simon

Thanks Simon. I'm not asking for any specific date, but are we talking months or years? If it's months, I'll continue to eye up a Cisco

IPv6, Wiki

Is it worth it... probably not if you only expect a new router to last for a couple of years or less, probably yes if you want it long-term.

I'm fairly sure I'm going to need a new router soon, and I'm fed up replacing it every year or so

I should think within a year. As the IPv4 supply looks like being exhausted in 2-4 years it will certainly happen before then

Cheers Simon, time to go and study the Cisco website, then see what's going on eBay

(I like Cisco kit, don't like their prices )
