Gaming and general speed issues

[link to this post]

In recent months my connection and speed has been excellent, in minor part to BT fixing a intermittently slightly noisy telephone line.

However, Friday and saturday evening my connection to mainly European Gaming servers and less noticeable UK gaming servers has been poor. I've had the problem (I've seen it before) of my ping being good as usual and then climbing every so often to rediculously high values, which cause me either to be kicked, or pause within game, until the latency corrects itself.

I've never had this issue with Idnet (or zen before) and had only noticed it in the past with Talktalk who instigated their port throttling.
I use the Steam platform for gaming and the port range is between 27000 - 27050.

I've checked too, that nothing else is using my connection (ie app update etc), but this weekend the problem is intermiitent/regularish in it's affect, but the affect has been constant and not cleared even after several router reboots etc.

Now I'm noticing very slow speed tests of around 2000Kbps, where I usually get upto around 7000Kbps.
Maybe this is an exchange problem? Anyone else had any problems like this over this weekend?
Usually my ping to the European servers is excellent with Idnet, usually bettering others in Central Europe.

I hope things improve.

I'm no gamer, so can't help, but I would suggest you give support a call in the morning, they'll take a look at it for you.

I play on-line a lot and haven't noticed any difference in my ping, as you say it could be your exchange.
You could also give CS a call and ask them to check interleaving hasn't been turned on, this happened to me a while ago and it added approx 20ms to my ping.

As for speeds I've just tested mine. (see below)

Well it seems that things have improved today. Download speed are back to where they are normally, although pings aren't spectacular at least they are acceptable.

Could have been exchange work that has or hasn't been relayed to the ISP's, but I'll probably give Idnet a call tomorrow and see if they have any information.
