Holy Moses.........IDNet are having a rough time !

[link to this post]

Since I jumped ship to O2 , I havent really looked in here nor the netters forum. I entered both today and I am flabberghasted by what I have read. The last thing I heard a while back was that IDNet had extra pipes to be installed and up and running by Nov08 and the congestion , abysmal speed, intermittent DNS and poor email heartaches that resulted in me asking for my MAC , would be a thing of the past and that IDNet would have capacity to last a long time.

From reading netters it seems an awful lot has gone wrong since I was there and on DSLZoneUK , IDNet`s place in the top group has slid also . O2 went through the wars a few weeks back , my 13.8MB ( 1.7 MB/sec ) connection slid down the toilet to 0.3MB and I was up in arms. Thankfully it was resolved quickly and things are running like clockwork again for LLU customers like me, 8MB Access customers have major upgrades literally a few weeks away to straighten things out at their end.

When I was at IDNet , initially they were the very best id ever used , until the niggles came into the equation. You regular posters at this forum, how are your connections bearing up now, how close are you to 24/7 decent speeds and is email getting through any quicker for you ? Im confident IDNet will get sorted out and back to the way it was before .............keeping my fingers crossed for you guys !!

Unfortunately they have....

I have now reluctantly migrated away from Idnet, but at least my service is now back to normal.

I'd love to jump to LLU but out in the sticks we just don't get the option. From what I can see though, IDNet are still one of the best of a bad bunch when it comes to IPStream providers.

Still, for £25 a month I don't expect to have to keep switching out DNS servers when IDNet's flake out (as they are currently doing fairly routinely).

No speed problems, though, and as I don't currently game online I've no issue with the sporadic latencies. Fingers crossed these are temporary gremlins...

The 25 quid a month always bothered me , it just seems so expensive when you think of other ISP`s. My wifes mobile has an O2 sim card, so I ring up O2 support and register that number with them , this chops £5 off my monthly bill ( making it 9.79 p/m ) All she has to do is is top up her phone by a minimum of £10 every 3 months, so no worries there. She has been using her phone and topping up every now and again, I then receive an email telling me that my account is credit to the tune of 6 quid and I wont be receiving a bill for the next month !! I completed this test on my go to site dslzoneuk at 5.45pm today ( sunday) when all the kids are on their pc`s and it gave me this:

13147 Kbps
which is around 1.61 MB/s
including overheads

and at 6pm on the virgin media 50MB tester

File size transferred : 10.0 MB (10485760 bytes)
Total time taken : 6.3 seconds (6297 milliseconds)
Throughput : 1665.0 KB/sec [Kilobyte-per-second]
= 1.66 MB/sec [Megabyte-per-second]
= 13320.0 Kbps [Kilobit-per-second]
= 13.32 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]

13.3MB during a busy period is fine by me and it underlines the viewpoint that I had whilst at IDNet regarding paying 25 quid for an 8MB connection which relies on BT Wholesale. I left IDNet in Aug08 and O2 LLU is just giving me amazing speeds, 7 days a week UK support and literally for buttons in terms of cost.

Anybody signed up yet for IDNet adsl2+ , are the monthly charges available ?

Not yet, there are relatively few WBC-enabled exchanges, but testing is in hand.

I moved to LLU nearly 14months ago from IDNET because of problems with slow speeds which I put down to BTw.

I too returned here for first time since and am equally 'amazed' at the number of people apparently having problems.

For my part, I have had a sound connection for the whole of the time on LLU and my speed is nearly 3 times what I was getting with IDNET. Only had to contact CS once at the beginning and found them efficient so no problems there.

On top of it all, I am saving £15 per month!! Nice!! smile

So why are the ratings like this?

Bob: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Standard.
Purple Cloud for domain, email and web space.

We have had a rough patch because some network upgrades didn't go according to plan - we're bracing ourselves for the next set of ratings! blush
The above post has been made by an ISP REPRESENTATIVE (although not necessarily the ISP being discussed in the post).
