Excess usage

[link to this post]

Email received tonight:
Dear Bill Ford

re: your broadband line number [removed]
Your monthly allowance is 90GB.

Based on your current level of usage, your projected bandwidth use (data download) for a 30 day time period will be: 93.81 GB.

If your current bandwidth usage continues then this would equate to an excess bandwidth charge of: £4 [£1.00/GB] for this month.

You can monitor your bandwidth use online daily in the Customer Account section on the website: https://www.idnet.net/secure

Kind regards,

The IDNet Support Team

I've been trying to trip that message (without actually going over the limit!) for ages, glad to know it works grin

The monthly 90GB limit only shows how far behind BT as a telecom provider really is (I see IDNet just as a reseller of BT local loops and networks). There are bottlenecks everywhere: From the local exchange's contentions, copper line lengths, overpriced BT Centrals, yesterday's technology in tomorrows 21st Century network (means nothing to the end user), upstream speeds lower than 1mpbs, etc. Doesn't anybody see the need for the FTTP and real backhaul networks? With the current BT patch works used by IDNet there no longterm prospect of genuine broadband services.

Hi Bill,

How about this?

Dear xxxxxxxxxx

re: your broadband line number 01326xxxxxx (IDNxxxx)

Your monthly allowance is 30GB.

Based on your current level of usage, your projected bandwidth use (data download) for a 30 day time period will be: 102.07 GB.

If your current bandwidth usage continues then this would equate to an excess bandwidth charge of: £72 [£1.00/GB] for this month.

You can monitor your bandwidth use online daily in the Customer Account section on the website: https://www.idnet.net/secure

Pretty good smile

I've had some fairly outlandish predictions from the RSS feed by carefully timing a couple of nice big downloads, but not on the cautionary email.

/ Note to self- must try harder wink

Utopia is a long way off and, unfortunately, isp's have to work with what infrastructure is actually in place. The only ones that can change the situation are the very ones who prefer big profits for their shareholders in the short term rather than investing for better returns in the long term. The government should chyange laws to force BT to upgrade their infrastructure within 3 years.
