BT failure hits IDNet

[link to this post]

From the IDNetters forum:

We have been royally let-down by BT, again, on the WBC 21CN ADLS2+ service. We had been running the service in beta-mode during testing on limited available bandwidth whilst the service was proved. Since we started placing volume regrade orders we placed an upgrade order on BT to increase the available bandwidth on our 21CN Host Link to accommodate the expected capacity requirements. The lead-time for such an order is 5 working days. (Heaven knows why such an order takes so long to complete given that it is just a simple config change.) We placed this order on 29th May and it has still not ben implemented. Knowing full well that we have many customers expected to go live over the next few days we "escalated" the issue to the BT Senior Product Manager in charge of WBMC. Still, no results! We will, of course, be having full and frank discussions with BT tomorrow on this latest failure. At this time all we can do is to apologise to our customers for the poor initial experience of ADSL2+.

Regards in frustration
Simon

Yea - it's pretty painful at the moment. Sub 1M speeds most of the time this afternoon / evening frown

Let's hope BT get on the case real fast before a whole bunch of IDnet ADSL2 regrades are royally shafted by cruddy speeds.

If you're stuck with slow speeds and want fast browsing in the meantime, download a copy of Opera 10.0 beta browser and switch Turbo mode on. It makes browsing nice and zippy with a slow connx, and lightens the load on IDnet's ADSL2 pipe for the meantime.

Here's hoping this gets fixed real soon!

That explains why my connection has turned to treacle this evening. Connecting at 14028 kbps but speedtesting at 970 kbps...

I missed that announcement on IDNetters, I tend not to use the home page much so don't always see new ones.

Thanks for the re-post.
We will, of course, be having full and frank discussions with BT tomorrow

It's BT (Openreach) being in a vindictive mood again because they are isp's other than BT. They do seem to be extremely biased in their support for isp's other than BT. Or is that just me being a bit paranoid. smile

Welcome to the wonderful world of BT... you'd swear you lived in a 3rd world country if BT was the only thing you had to measure it by.

Granted things will probably get better in the long run - but I was considering idnet as a possible alternative to BT but it doesn't look like things are any better on the other side of the fence.

Bt will drive small firms out of business and effectivley I feel like I have been mugged so I have or am awaiting the final phase of migrating I cannot dig at IDNet its not thier doing but I do feel I am paying near enough top money for a low level isp which they are not but if it isnt sorted others will i suspect realise that the so called speeds cannot be provided I think its a disgrace and all I can do is either go to a much cheaper provider with actually higher speeds or find an even dearer oe who can give me what I have enjoyed for so long 5.4...either way I think this is vital for all that it is sorted it could have a big impact on smaller providers.

Im spitting blood and just want what I pay for and for once in all the time I have been with them this is the first time I can say I could not recommend IDNet and I think they would at this moment in time understand and agree

Very sad day for me

Im no techie the views here are from an end user who really should not be caught up in this

I have had a very positive. experience since changing from o2 Access to IDNet, the speeds particularly in the evening are fantastic, no more teatime/weekend crawl.

The problems that have occured are dealt with in a far more efficient manner than either o2, Orange or BT(previous providers). Looking at my figures stored on the speed test thingy here that is when I really realise just how good IDNet actually are smile

Basically with a market1 exchange I think that IDNet have shown themselves, in my personal experience, to be the best BT IPstream product seller and much more helpful and open with information when problems arise
