More routing issues...

[link to this post]

From Netters:

http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=21...

From IDNet: 2010-09-07 16:37: There have been a couple of network routing issues this afternoon that we are working to resolve.

I can't reach my bank or cc company or a site I use daily for work. Multiple other sites affected. Very fed up.

it now appears that it's an external problem to IDNet, with one of the peers dropping intermittently. When that happens, all the IP addresses have to be re-routed, which takes time and cause the slow access or lack of access. Being intermittent, of course, it's proving a bit more difficult to find and bypass.

Bit more info from IDNetters:
It's router week

This afternoon's problems have been caused by a router at redbus being overloaded by continually updating routing instructions from the Amsterdam peer.

This caused it to get in a tail spin, so it wasn't talking to the other half of the network, so those routers also got in a spin.

Things seem to be settling, but IDNet are continuing to monitor and will shut off the offending peering when they are sure they've identified it correctly.

Things seem OK for me but, in an ongoing situation, its a relief to know that IDNet are continuing to monitor and work on the issue. Theyre getting information out to the customer faster that they used to which is something of a comfort.

I couldn't access any site for a while this afternoon even though my DSL link to the exchange was on. It's better now tonight. However, the name resolution is still quite slow for a few sites.
