No internet connection Sunday night

[link to this post]

Though my router was connected to the local exchange just fine, there was no internet access for several hours Sunday night. Has anyone else experienced similar disruptions to the internet service?

Yes and there is a full explanantion on Idnet status page and also idnetters. Here is the full statement from Simon
BT have admitted that someone removed the configuration for our circuits yesterday. We and demanded that they investigate why this happened, what safeguards will now be put in place to ensure that it can't happen again and why it took them so long to resolve the issue.

I think perhaps the "Hand of God" played itself out here somehow. smile

I noticed about 7.30 last night but my router diagnostics showed a network problem so I switched off and found something better to do since it was Sunday wink

Still off this morning so phoned Support about 8.30 and spoke within seconds to a very nice gentleman who confirmed there had been a problem and he would look into my particular fault. 45 minutes later I was back on smile

Is this sort of outage common with IDNet? I was wondering last night whether I should have signed up for Xilo instead. frown

No more so than any of the normal BT outages. This was a bit beyond the control of IDNet.

No probs. I'm a new IDNet customer and hadn't really heard much about the ISP before signing up.

I was a bit miffed last night as I had to drive into work to sort something out that could have been done in a couple of minutes online.

It's the first time I've seen anything like it in 4 years. Most outages, and there have been few, have been for minutes rather than hours.

My sister has been with iDNet for just over 2 years. The only outage she had was an exchange problem, which was sorted inside an hour or so with a phone call to support.

Must admit I'd like to hear the outcome of their complaint to BT. I can imagine Simon was incandescent, not just with the fact that it happened, but also with BTs lackadaisical response to fixing it.

I've been with IDNet 4 years and it's the longest period it's been down in that time. Gets one off the PC for a while wink
