Speed seems slow ?

My speed seems to be quite low at the moment and im not sure why. I have just migrated from Bethere and if im honest the reason i moved is because i was getting poor speeds with them. I have been with IDNet in the past so i know how good they are.
Anyway back to the point, about 1 month ago my connection with Be was around 6meg download and 1meg upload. My Line isn't the best, so i was happy with that. Within the last few weeks (While still with Be) my speed halved, sometimes going down to less than 1meg download speed. As you can see from my speed test i am now getting less than half of my original 6meg download speed




My Router is a Netgear DG834 v4 with the latest Firmware installed.

Router stats:

Connection speed: 9119 kbps (Downstream) 1179kbps (Upstream)

Line Attenuation: 38.5db (Downstream) 18.5db (Upstream)

Noise Margin: 6.1db (Downstream) 6.1db (Upstream)


I have tried unplugging the phone from the filter so it is just the router connected but i get the same result. I am unable to plug into the master socket, as i have a very old style BT master socket that doesn't have a removeable faceplate as in the pic below.

Should i be getting better speeds with my stats ? Or should i just be happy with what i have got ? I am on the Home Plus ADSL2+ package.

Your router stats look alright, so you need to do a BT test to find out what your profile is. If you pop over to IDNetters, it will be easier for me to help you there.

Just done another speed test and things seem back to normal so fingers crossed for me lol. I will still do a BT test just to double check things.

Just mentioning Idnetters strikes fear into internet speeds.

Speed testers are not the most reliable way to check throughput as there are also other factors that are outside your isp's remit, the site it's self and the load at the time the test taken, i tend to use test files from several different sources
