Migrated over from O2

noticed the Exchange chipset has changed to a TI TSTC and have lost around 2.5MB downstream

Not too worried as it might just be the DLM

got a 7800n and wondering if it is as compatible as it is with the LLU Providers

I recently returned to IDNet from an LLU provider and I also have a Billion 7800N.

I have been very impressed with the performance I have been getting and my 7800N regularly syncs with a 3dB noise margin without me having to force the issue. I have around 37dB attenuation and today I obtained a sync of more than 13Mbs for the first time ever, not that I expect it to stay there once the noise margin drops overnight, but I still get very good sync rates at the top of the 11-12 Mbs range.

Just to prove me wrong, my 13Mbs sync, which I expected to disappear overnight, is still there with a noise margin of 2.6dB. I don't know what BeeTee have done in my exchange, but the performance I am getting is considerably better than I was getting on LLU, contrary to my expectations when I moved back to IDNet.

I have also set up my router to use PPoE with LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING, but I don't think this has any influence other than making it possible to resync without a restart.

FWIW I always used a BT 2-Wire router since I have a long line, (54dB attn) but when BT upgraded the exchange to ADSL2, I found that an old Zyxel which BT had previously said was faulty (long story) gave me an extra 750K or so over the 2-Wire.

The new kit in the exchange also uses a TI chip and the Zyxels are mostly (not all) based on the TI AR7 - I think they're now made by Infineon - which does seem to play well with the TI kit in my exchange. Mine's a 662H and I think the 661H is also AR7 based; can't speak for any others in the range but Zyxel sales can probably tell you which one uses what chip.

Neither is cheap but either might be worth considering. YMMV
