Sound Input/ Output Q

[link to this post]

I am using the Mac Mini as a Media centre thingy in the living room... EyeTV providing the video and Hi-Fi amp/ speakers the sound.

I want to use a USB Skype phone, but it's such a fag to change the input/ output in the Control panel each time... so that you don't have a private conversation boomed around the house.

Is there any way of automatically switching if a phone call comes in??

If you set the audio settings under Skype | Preferences; do they not stick?

Do the System preferences not over-ride the Skype prefs?

It's late and I've got Xmas shopping to do tomorrow so I'll try tomorrow eve.

Thanks for the pointer.

Skype preferences override the System Prefs for audio in/out.

I know this only too well, as it's rather annoying for me. I normally use SoundSource's little menu bar thingie to switch my prefs between headset and iSight/loudspeakers, but Skype ignores it.

Oh!

I was wondering if someone clever could write a little (Apple)script that would change the prefs when either a call came in or if you made a call...

Perhaps I should suggest it to Skype.

My point is that you don't need to. Set Skype->Skype Preferences to work the way you want it. It will then do that independently of what you have set up for the rest of the Mac in System Preferences->Sound.
