iBook power cable

[link to this post]

My mother has a 12" iBook G4 (the last type before the MacBook was released) and the power cable has been playing up for a few days now. Sometimes it charges, sometimes it doesn't, but fiddling with the position of the cable seems to bring it to life for a while.

What is her best bet regarding a new cable? It seems to be the cable with the connector (which connects to the iBook) that is faulty and I'm guessing it can easily be replaced as it detaches from the wee power unit. Is Apple the best bet? Or are there cheaper alternatives?

Fetler.

Namaste.

A new one costs from £29 (3rd party) to £54 (original)

Cancom sell a MacAlly made one here. Mirco Anvika sell the same one here for £6 more.

Genuine Apple ones are available here from Micro Anvika and here from VIS.

If you buy it in a shop take the laptop along and get them to try it first, just to make sure it is not the DC in port on the laptop that is at fault (from what you are describing the fault could be with either!).

From personal experience I can say that the original Apple power adaptors are much more sturdy than the MacAlly ones.
But being nearly twice the price, the MacAlly one may still be better value for money.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Malte

Thanks for that. I've ordered the genuine Apple one from Micro Anvika.
