Safari Problems

Lately Safari has been playing up and now it is becoming a problem. I can only open a few web pages before randomly Safari freezes. I have to force quit and begin again. Any ideas or suggestions?

Download and install firefox? Safari has been a bit rubbish for me too. Only other idea is to delete all cookies and probably the preferences file in the library area so that the next time you start safari it re-writes it. Also try emptying the cache and history files too.

3 or 4 beta?

4 beta tends to create loads of rubbish on the hard disk.

Can you tell me how to prevent Firefox from showing table and cell divisions , it makes some sites seem untidy.

Are there any input managers installed either in Macintosh HD/Library/InputManagers or Users/Library/InputManagers? The folder won't exist if you don't, otherwise drag it out to the Desktop and try Safari again.

I found a folder marked Input Manger and inside was another folder "LCC Scroll Enhancer Loader." Could this be the culprit causing the problems and do I do anything with it?

Maybe, with Safari closed drag the folder to the desktop. If it makes no difference just put it back.

Part of the Logitech Control Center - famously crappy and ill-mannered software and using haxies, which Apple will feel (quite rightly) under no obligation to support.

Afraid you can't, they're a function of the page design. If the designer hasn't set border to zero, they'll display in one form or another in all the browsers that I've played with.

I've never had any problems with Safari and it looks nice and clean but I still generally prefer Firefox.

I second that. Neither Safari 3 or 4 cause any problems. If you want Firefox, might as well get Windows and be done with it.

As a potential solution, repair permissions and fsck your drive � restart holding cmd-s then when boot has finished enter 'fsck -yf'. Once that finishes, if it says changes were made to the disk, run fsck again. Finally enter 'reboot'. If you are running a G5, the fans will spin to jet engine level. This is normal.

If no help, check the Internet Plug-ins for out of date plug-ins and also see how much CPU time Safari is taking up in Activity Monitor. It could be trying to check RSS feeds that are jammed for example

Thanks for the info. Yes I was really comparing it with Safari which is much cleaner but of late has seemed to become less stable which is a shame as it is much quicker too.

Yes, I find that safari will 'hang' and then seconds later will quit, this is with multiple tabs and windows open.

I usually have about 4 Safari windows open and one of those windows has 10 tabs, it is ok for a few days at a time.

Ta, I don't have an 'Input Managers' folder, but there are one or two plugins (DivX, flip4mac). it doesn't crash often enough for me to pursue what's causing the problem though.

Last 2 versions of safari have been total poo for me. Only have to leave it open and ignored with a single page open and it goes to high cpu usage 60%+ when it is basically just minimised and having to do nothing. Not impressed. I use firefox and camino mainly. It is already the browser of last resort due to its poor behaviour in the past.
