iPad 3G and Orange 5p per MB plan

[link to this post]

Hi, has anyone taken up the Orange 5p per MB plan for their iPad? What's it like in use, how much MB do you use up?

I wasn't going to buy a 3G iPad because most of the time I will be using it at home but when I saw Orange are offering 5p per MB I have decided to go for a 3G iPad. This plan sounds ideal for me as I would only occasionally use the iPad out and about and then only to check mail or look up something quickly on the web. I don't mind paying 50p occasionally for checking mail as opposed to £2 a day as I am going to be a casual user.

So what do others think, is this a good choice for me?

I've not used the Orange 3G as after getting the iPad I spotted Three's price of £7.50 for 1GB a month, which is what I'll opt for instead. If you think you might end up using more than 150MB in a month that might be a better option for you (from my use, I've found myself showing the odd YouTube video to friends, so that would quickly add up).

ta,
Phil.

3 sim arrived today, set up and working well. Best signal in this area, only get GPRS at home on iPhone on O2. Orange signal is week.

Poor 3G performance on 3 network

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

I'm rather disappointed with the data throughput on 3 on my iPad. I suspect the 3 network is congested in the London area. I'm seeing much better performance on my iPhone on O2.

I've got t-mobile 3G and I find the coverage in this area of the country to be less than fantastic, and on a lot of occasions even when I have good signal the performance (especially packet loss) is very poor frown

May be worthwhile trying Vodafone; you can buy a cheap Vodafone SIM on eBay for £3.25.

You will need to either cut that SIM up to fit the iPad or get a blank microsim and ring Voda to do a SIM swap.
