what's a i -touch? Something you are not supposed to do to children and small furry animals?

Your problem seems to be that the iPod Touch or iPad can't get an IP address by itself so it is asking you to set it up manually. The problem is likely not with the offending device, but with your network.

Do you have a wireless router? Is wireless turned on on it? Is it broadcasting its SSID? Do you know what the SSID is? Is the router using DHCP? Is the router locked down so it only allows kit with specific MAC addresses to access the web? Do you know the wireless passcode?

Feel free to throw the offending kit in the bin. Just let me know where the bin is and I'll come round and empty it for you.

Thank you Desmond for your reply, it sounds as if you are a person that knows all about computers and the like???. To each is own!. I am sorry if I am not in your ball park. So with all that out of the way can you help.
Yes the router is on, It may be that TalkTalk computer security may be blocking my I-pod, as far as all the other questions you asked me i have no idea.withy reference to the IP address do they want mine or talktak? I have found out the name of my router and the password, but what about the DNS?

Your iPod Touch should sync to your computer using a USB cable. As far as I know it cannot sync over the network, and the TalkTalk router should not be involved.

Make sure you have iTunes installed on your computer, then plug the iPod Touch into the computer using the USB cable that came with it, and follow the on-screen instructions in iTunes.

If you want to connect to the Internet using your iPod Touch *then* you do need to set it up to connect through your router. As far as I know this should not be a problem:

- Tap Settings on your iPod Touch
- Tap Wi-Fi
- Make sure the Wi-Fi slider is set to On
- Your TalkTalk router's name should appear in the "Choose a Network" list
- Tap the name (not the blue arrow), and it should ask you for the password for your TalkTalk router. This is typically printed on the router.
- Enter the password. You should then see a tick beside the router's name.
- Press the Home button to return to your Home screen, and select Safari. You should then be able to brows the Internet.
