My First Apple Complaint

[link to this post]

Maybe I'm being a bit picky here, but my Macbook Pro seems to produce a high pitch sound. Anyone heard of this issue before? Is there a way to sort it out? Do I just have very good hearing tongue?

Also, is it possible/necessary to run a hdd cleanup/defragment utility? I can't seem to find one in utilities...

There's no such facility built in. But you can get a piece of software called CleanMyMac in which removes all unnessasary language files, printer drives, old .dmg's, and lots lots more. You have to pay for it but the serial can be pirated online (as i have done)

on its first run, it reclaimed over 5% of HDD space, so roughly 7GB I think the total saving was. As for the high pitched sound, it might be a number of things and that question would be best suited for Apple Care or a Genius bar staff.

Some do emit loud noises which are known faults. If you are near an Apple store and the machine is in warranty, book an appointment to get the part (normally the logicboard on laptops) replaced FOC.

If there are no Apple stores, you should be near an Apple approved service centre where they'll do the same thing.

I used to have that problem, along with an issue where a faint electrical current was felt on the palmrests of the shell itself. The electrical problem was linked whether or not I used the full power lead instead of just putting the 3-pin UK plug onto the power adapter directly. Maybe the issues were related. Are you using the full power lead?

Macs don't tend to fragment their drives anyway. When you do an update it does a clean up automatically so it should be fine. I've not noticed fragmentation issues on an imac that has been in continuous use for nearly 5 years so I doubt if a macbook pro is going to have problems smile

I'd contact applecare about the noise issue. Does it remain if you mute the speakers?
