iTouch

[link to this post]

yet another silly question from me frown

I bought my iTouch [ 8GB ] in NewYork on Dec 5 last year .

Now today when I was Syncing it I got the notification of the iOS update for 2nd generation of iTouch and 3rd generation [ late 2009 ] with 32 or 64 GB [ note not the 8 or 16GB versions ] .

How do I find out which generation mine is ? I've backed out of the iOS update for the present.

Hey

Yours looks to be a second generation one because of the size.

Type the serial here :https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

it will tell you the model and what repair coverage you have left.

Get the serial from itunes or go to setting general about should be there

Pluss the new ios4 works on older devices except for first gens but all the features may not be enables like multitasking for example but i hear that it slows down 2nd gen devices

Hi Goldie,

It's a 2nd Generation you've got - only the 32 and 64gb from September 2009 onwards are 3rd generation.

Surprised it's asking though - when I updated mine, iTunes just asked me to accept the upgrade, it didn't tell me to choose a version!

Didn't ask me either - it's just I , as I was spooling through the details noticed the bits about 2nd and 3rd generation stuff - and as I was unsure I backed out.

OK I'll do the upgrade
