Help Outlook on Mac To Windows ?

[link to this post]

Hi Everyone.

Can anybody recommend a easy method of transferring Outlook Express mail folders from a Apple Mac to a new works Windows laptop running Windows 8.1.

Without downloading some 3rd party program I'm totally in the dark at how to do this,my girlfriend has a works email address associated with her works Mac and it needs to be transferred so this works on a Windows machine.

I have suggested she talks to her IT department ? but believe it or not she thinks its easy to do herself but 6 weeks later to no avail so she still using her Mac which she says has become somewhat sluggish and unresponsive.

Cheers All.

When I transferred from Windows (outlook) to Mac I setup a new email account set it up as IMAP on the Windows PC and copied all my emails to that account.

I the created the same account on the Mac (Office 2011) and copied the emails I wanted to a local folder.

Still not sorted, even her own IT department couldn't work it out and they managed to transfer some deleted mail folders from about 4 years ago and thats about it.

been looking at a program which you have to pay for,but I'm not sure if this is required for her Mac or the Windows PC she wants the mailboxes to go to.

Was looking at Stellar Mail Converter.

There must be someone who knows how to do this successfully and easily, obviously if a so called technical department has not yet managed it then i doubt she is going to be able to work it out.

What mail application is she using on the Mac? You mention Outlook Express but this is an old Windows program.

If you can let me know the mail application I can likely advise.

I'm guessing that this must be a fairly old Mac, as I think Outlook Express only existed for PPC Macs.

Unfortunately, transferring OE mail to another computer is never an easy process. Have a look to see if anything in this (non OS X specific) link helps: http://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/transferring-...

Ah, that's a different question. Mac Mail is not Outlook in any form.

See if anything in this thread works: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5742015?tstart=0

The very simplest solution to mail problems like this is to use IMAP. That way you can easily synchronize mail between two or more computers.

Tiny exactly how does one go about doing that....

Do you have a simple instruction link,i know i could search myself but if you have a quick simple solution then that would help me.

Always struggled with mails and set up.

Do you realise not even her own technical department have managed to correctly do it,she has been working with this macbook air for about 4 years and wants to go back to windows.

They managed to do a remote link and what they actually managed to port over to her windows laptop where deleted mails and folder from around 3 years ago and no recent content.

I am also lead to believe that this Imap process it tedious and very long winded and can be open to corruption and not porting over all the exsisting mail boxes.

I was going to get a 3rd party converter as the mail format on Mac is different on Windows, there is a free version but also a paid version which I'm guessing is what I'm going to need as there would be little point having a paid version if the free version actually done the job.

Its her personnel Works Email address and not a Gmail account ,and this address has the company she works for and a .com on the end.

She'd really need to talk to her IT folk again about IMAP (although they do sound fairly useless) as it is a function of the mail server. IMAP is very reliable, not difficult to set up, and I would expect any modern mail server to handle it. Perhaps the best thing is if she asks specifically about IMAP as an option; the potential problem is that the mail server might be set up to delete mail once it has been downloaded, which would rule out IMAP as a method of getting the old mails.

As starters I would try out that 3rd party converter. I can't think why the IT people should have such difficulty with this; it's a fairly common request to transfer mail from one computer to another.

Well I did a quick search and came across this:

http://download.cnet.com/Mac-Mail-to-Outlook-Convert...

Sounds easy - or at least some IT functionary should be able to use it??

Turns out it wasn't Outlook Express at all, the OP was mistaken.
