MacBook RAM upgrade

[link to this post]

Probably a daft question... but I'll ask anyway! My MacBook currently has 2GB RAM and I'm considering upgrading it to 4GB RAM. Will it make a noticeable difference? I do a few intensive things on it, such as playing Football Manager 2009 (really does screw it hard) and I'd like to do some proper photo editing with Photoshop.

43 for 2x2GB doesn't sound like a bad deal, but I don't want to waste the money if it won't give my MacBook much of an improvement.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't have thought much, although I've no idea how games react.

Activity Monitor will give you some hints.

I upgraded the Intel iMac from 2GB to 4GB the other week and it has made a huge difference. Using Lightroom and Photoshop it was getting really sluggish and the spinning beach ball was a common sight. In fact this was the driver for the upgrade. Since the 4GB upgrade not a beach ball in sight and overall much more responsive. YMMV of course.

Steve

Hmm - tha's made me think .

I've always wondered about doing it - but never got round to it.

I certainly find that MS Office and Neo-Office are very very slow to start up - wonder if getting more RAM would help ......

It won't turn the laptop into a rocket but you will notice it smoother. 43 is a good spend in my opinion.

A sensible upgrade, my 17" MBP came with 2gig but really made a difference upping it to 4, and as Bosie said - can't go wrong at 43 or so.
