Cracked case

Afternoon all.

The other day I got my MacBook out of its protective case on a ferry to Dublin. The protective case is fairly thick foam and protects it whenever I'm not using it. Anyway, I was happily tap-tap-tappin' away when I felt something funny under my right hand, and I noticed that my MacBook case had cracked ever so slightly and the plastic fell off.

I've no idea how it happened as I didn't notice it before I went. Will it be covered under the warranty? I'm not a happy bunny!

That's a common failure point. I'd push for a repair.

Probably why Apple made the next gen Macbook from aluminium, they've had a lot of issues with Macbook casing.

It's covered under Applecare OK and your warranty [ f you haven't got Apple care ]

How old is your MacBook now ?

That looks like your top case so you will get a new keyboard

My Machine is either being used or it is in an InCase slip cover and then fastened in place in my good laptop case - even the Genius guys say it's pampered the way I look after it - and I've had 2 [ or is it 3 ] topcases and 2 bottom ones too .

I still want to know what will happen after my AppleCare expires in November this year

I've had the MacBook for approx. nine months. I think I'll take it to the nearest Apple store next Thursday when I'm back in the UK

You should not have any problem - they will let you know when the parts are in stock if they don't have them already [ tip - get a Genius bar in the morning - I understand orders for parts go in about midday ]

Go online now and see if you can get your appointment booked - it's worth a shot

Fitting it is about a 2-3 hour job from my experience - but that depends how long the queue is .

As everyone said, a warranty claim is no problem at all on this.

In the case of a plastic Macbook top-case the workshop doesn't even have to send the faulty part back to Apple, but can simply dispose of it.

It will certainly fail again, as there has been no change of design or material, then you buy a SONY ot TOSHIBA?

Probably Apple should have changed to improved detail design and/or material grade then had a free recall programme.

Funnny how a large company like Apple can make a mess of things.

Titanium Powerbooks U/S with wireless, compared with sheaper plastic cased Apple laptops.

Recent plastic case Apple laptops which repeatedly crack.

Should not be too hard to get it right - the cheaper PC laptop makers seem to manage better.

Makes it hard to recommend Apple hardware to others.
