Fabulous - i've been downloading all night, the ones I can't find in the shops and I've wanted for ages but refused to buy because of DRM.

I see that on the store front page there's now an "Upgrade My Library" item (under "Quick Links") if you want the DRM-free versions of what you've bought.

At 20p a song! You certainly can't fault Apple's business model.

Just to be clear it is only the end of DRM on Music in iTunes. TV episodes and film are still DRM encrypted (I don't know about music videos).
That isn't to say I don't like the video in iTunes, relatives bought me some iTunes vouchers for xmas (£45 between a couple of them) and so I thought while I wasn't paying I would give some TV epsides a try and I have to say I am impressed. I have a MacMini as a media centre in my living room which outputs to an old CRT TV via a signal converter(over scart) so I can't really comment on the encoding quality but given the file sizes and that the episodes look nice on my 12" Powerbook G4 in full screen as well I think it's pretty good. Also some of the catalog is wicked, Rex the Runt is on there for flips sake, what an amazing show! I've spent 35 quid of the vouchers now on various things and am well pleased.

I've got over 3,000 "songs", but most have been ripped from CDs- I've only bought about half a dozen tracks from iTunes that I'll want to upgrade so not a problem for me

Yeah. I always buy CDs and rip them. I can't quite see the point of electronic downloads that cost as much as, if not more than, the CD, are copy-protected, and leave me without a hard-copy backup. Showing my age I guess.

Music Videos are DRM free because the label is the same as the music but TV and Film companies are still insisting on having DRM.
TV/Film quality is good enough to play back on large screens such as my projector.
