Odd Safari behaviour

In the past few days, in fact since the last update which I can't actually remember what it was, Safari has started to open a new tab when I click on some, but by no means all, links. Anybody else experiencing this? I have checked Preferences and nothing has been changed.

Not having this problem myself but just a thought:

Are you using 'right click' to open link in new window? If you are then it is very easy to open link in new tab as the two menu items are next to each other.
