I'm impressed

My g/f does a lot of graphics stuff, mostly as a hobby, so I decided to buy her a Mac Pro for Christmas (a contributing factor being a fairly good staff discount I get where I work - no idea why, our company has nothing to do with Apple!)

Very nice kit, I must say. The case is pretty well designed, the whole thing is dead quiet and the initial "switch-on" video blew me away when I saw it.

My g/f is, needless to say, pleased with her Mac. If I could afford to get another one for my own use I would be very tempted to do so.

Being a Linux user I did originally see if she'd like Linux, but there were too many little annoyances to make it a "user-friendly" experience (and this was even on Ubuntu.) Since MS don't seem to be doing anything particularly amazing with Windows (Windows 7 task bar looks like its intended to act like the Mac OS X dock...) and due to the nature of the stuff my g/f uses the computer for, I figured a Mac was the way to go.

She's since mentioned that if she ever wants to upgrade her laptop it'll probably be a Macbook she gets...

Anyway, thought I'd drop in and say hi. I may even get myself a Mac Mini at some point.

If you can get a decent discount the Mac Pro is indeed very tempting. I currently run one with dual monitors and use Fusion to run Windows XP ... rock solid, which is more than I can say about my Vista 64 box (blue screens, dodgy wireless drivers, etc.). confused

Agree, the Mac Pro is such a smooth operator (and you're right, a silent one too) it's an enormous pleasure to use.
