Dilemma

[link to this post]

I am in the market for a new MacPro. My Dual G5 2.5GHz is great but it is now nearly 5 yrs old so I want to replace it and go all Intel.
Question is do I get the 2.66 Quad or the 2.26 Octo. Done a lot of reading on forums and places like barefeats etc and in many cases the 2.66 Quad outperforms the Octo. However what will Snow Leopard bring in terms of multi CPU performance? Anyone any views on what would be the best investment?

Slower machine will use less electric and make less noise (probably).

I have an old dual core 2.66Ghz Mac Pro and can't get the CPU usage that high. If you're a Final Cut Pro user then it is worth getting the fastest box.

Well I have gone and done it.
2.66GHz MacPro from the refurb store. Stuck in 3x1TB WD green drives, 7Gb RAM and a Dell SP2309W monitor.
Very impressed so far. Forgot how long it takes to set up with all my software. Well pleased....

Using Safari most of the time and occasionally FF. Somehow I can't get used to the way some things work in FF.
Mind you I don't like some things in Safari (like topsites so turned it off).
Most software so far is freeware/shareware other than Little Snitch, 1Password, Parallels3, Speed Download. Going to try Virtualbox on it soon.
Hope enquiring minds know now wink
