Macbook DVI Output in Black & White

[link to this post]

I have a 13" Macbook and have for the first time connected the MiniDVI block that I bought form Apple. It has an SVideo and RCA output. I plugged the SVideo into the connector and the other end (RCAs) to an LCD screen. The image appears, but is in Black and white. Tried it with another LCD and the same problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

From what you describe it may be that you are trying to connect an S-video output to a Composite video input. That will give you at best black and white.... unless the cable is designed to convert, requiring an internal capacitor and specific wiring to give a low quality kludge.

What are the rca inputs on the lcd described as?

Hi Radiomarko

Thanks for your thoughts. The RCAs are the standard video and audio left and right. It comes in to the screen as an "external" connection, the PC 232 being the "PC" input

I think you need to set the output to pal in monitor setting in sys prefs.

Confirms that you are trying to feed an S-video output into a Composite video input.

Connect the RCA video output (usually yellow) on the adapter to the RCA input on the LCD Monitor using an rca - rca cable ( phono to phono) an audio one will do if its not too long.. giving a composite video signal feed.

That will work but be prepared for less than RGB quality!

edited for clarity.
