When will Apple learn ?

I so wanted to buy a 27" iMac but the insistence of Apple using those ghastly glossy screens has meant that I have just gone out and bought a 27" Dell screen to use with my existing MacBook Pro so that I can work without having a reflection of myself staring back at me all day.

I am still using my nearly 4 year old 2.16 GHz 15" Macbook Pro that has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor because the latest MacBook Pro's have those stupid glossy screens unless you go for the 17" and they are still using Core 2 Duo processors so what is an extra .3 of a Hz in a new model going to give me over the one I have ? The rest of the world have already moved on to i3, i5, i7 and Core 2 Quad processors in their notebooks, Apple's hardware is beginning to look decidedly dated.

I think MacOSX is the best OS around and Apple make some nice products but they are loosing the plot with their hardware. I don't want a computer to replace my TV I want one that I can work on.

You can get the 15" MBP with anti-glare screen now. In fact, this has been an option for some time. (Mid 2009)

The initial unibody MBP didn't have the option though.

Glossy screens do seem to be a pain. You don't see glossy flat screen TVs? so why laptops.

Plasma screens are glossy, so were old CRT.

My Samsung LED telly is glossy - and awesome with it too.

CRTs had no choice being made of glass, they had anti reflective coatings to try to reduce the problem of the glass.

No laptop has a CRT or Plasma screen. So why the gloss?

My comment was related to the above.

Well I probably should have said flat screen LCD TVs.

People really into home cinema go to great lengths to position the TV on the wall without reflections ruining the experience.

I'm just puzzled why Apple thinks the glossy screen is a good idea. It seems it is to make it look nice, it is OK on the little iphone screen but on a large desktop screen it is like staring into a mirror. I'm glad I went into the apple store to see it for myself before buying one.

Supposedly makes colours look richer.
