Boot Camp for OS X

Hi folks

I wantin to install Boot Camp to my Intel MBP to run Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. I have never used it before, and was looking for some advice/links/tips/hints from the very wise people here.

I tried installing BC from a d/l online, but it says that it can't load in DOS mode. Am I correct in thinking that Boot Camp should already be there on OS X? I checked, and saw nothing?

Should be in Applications => Utilities => Boot Camp Assistant

Never used it myself though, so don't know what it needs.

You need to run the Bootcamp assistant and use it to prepare your system by creating a Windows partition on your hard drive. Then you have to burn a CD with the necessary drivers that you will install into the WIndows system to allow it to run on your hardware. Then you install a copy of Windows - you have to have your own copy, it doesn't come from Apple as part of Bootcamp. Then you reboot into Windows and install the drivers you burnt to CD.

If Dragon Naturally Speaking is the only reason you want to use Windows, it may be unnecessary. as Nuance also provide dictation software for the Mac OS.

Problem with bootcamp is you have to partition the hard disk. A virtual machine doesn't require this and you can move the VM image on and off the computer as you need it.

Parallels Desktop is a good VM, it makes the Windows apps appear on the OSX desktop. Obviously not free, but it would be how I would do it.

The options when setting BC up are either 5gig or 32gb. It would have to be the 32gb then.

It would take a lot then. Typical M$ lol. Might not bother spoiling my MBP for that. Will use the *cough* PC */cough* for that one.

I'd go with gilesjuk and suggest Parallels Desktop. I use it on my iMac to run many old Windows apps. You will need to purchase a copy of Windows if you do not already have one. I've used BC and had no end of problems with it, eventually having to reformat my disk and restore from backup.

I have 169gb left out of my 500gb. Will delete some games first.
