Yeah, innovation is on the slow down since old Steve died.
I will be getting one though. I migrated from the 4S (lovely phone) to the Samsung Galaxy Note and have been disappointed with both the build quality, performance, and OS.
I'll be getting one. Apple products aren't always the most advanced or cutting edge (let's not forget that the first iPhone didn't do 3G) but there tends to be a very good mix of simplicity, features, and style that other manufacturers struggle to match.
Also, being an iPad and MacBook owner, iCloud links everything together rather neatly and provides an incentive to keep everything Apple.
In terms of "Apple innovation" - what are we expecting? The only product I'd criticise is AppleTV, which seems to be developing slowly, if at all, but everything else (phones, laptops, desktops, tablets) seems to be developing nicely and making use of the latest technology.
