Yep... been there. My 27" iMac, late 2009, is now on it's third hard drive. Two Seagates and now a WD. The Seagates started giving errors and TechTool diagnostics showed failure was imminent. The drives were replaced in my local Apple store under warranty while I waited with no problem.
Fortunately I keep Time Machine backups so recovery/restoration was simple.
