MBA rev a and snow leopard

I have a Macbook Air Rev A, i upgraded to lion but found it run very hot, and battery life was rubbish, so went back to snow leopard. It was fine for a few days then stopped on the spinning daisy wheel, if i turn it off then back on again it boots fine, boots fine on lion and first few days back on snow leopard but then the problem returns.

There's a very comprehensive article about "the spinning beach ball of death" here, which point to things you can look at. First thing I would do would be a comprehensive hardware test; if you are doing a new install of Leopard, including reformatting the disk, then hardware seems the most likely explanation. Perhaps the very hot running has damaged something.

It doesn't get far enough for a spinning beach ball. It just gets to the apple logo with the spinning daisy wheel, and just keeps spinning goes no further, till i turn off then on again then boots fine. When i go back to lion all is well again.
