I have a Retina iPad. It seems I cannot copy my Windows pc's music onto the iPad. I want to bulk this to the iPad and then all my existing pc's music will be on my iPad too. I find the manuakl on music very opaque.....

You need to import (File / Add to Library) all of your existing music into iTunes on your Windows PC and then Sync your music library to your iPad. I use an iMac rather than a Windows PC, but it should work in the same way. I add all of my music to my iPod and selected films to my iPad in this way.

Once you get it into itunes you can set the ipad to sync wirelessly then just drag the music onto it without connecting.
