Really? After it forced me to put it there in the first place? Will it actually save afterwards, or keep insisting there are fields missing? I think I tried to bypass it when I was first prompted - why would I want to fill it in when I wasn't trying to pay for anything? But I couldn't find any way to circumvent it.

Will have a try later - see if it will let me delete.

I phoned Apple and they talked me through doing it using iTunes.

In this instance, "last night" was several days before the outage you mention, so unless it had been up and down the whole time, and my problems were just a hint of things to come, I doubt it's related................

Oh, it's one of those: "You can do it, but we're not going to make it easy", is it? Still haven't tried - will have a dabble in due course.

BatBoy is right - you can remove the credit card information if you log into your account using iTunes.
