Which store? Neither Brent Cross nor Milton Keynes - the two I've used for repairs over the years - did anything remotely similar (and Brent Cross gave me a new battery even though Applecare had expired and batteries weren't covered anyway.

Not a store this was over the phone. My nearest store is a 1.5 hour trip away.
I am still arguing with them about it. Going to give up soon
