Apple Airport Express

Would anyone be able to advise me if replacing my older 1st generation Airport Express with previously owned (eBay) 2nd generation Airpot Express is a poor choice of spending money?

Are there suitable alternatives? I feel as if the Airport Express is almost an antique, but they just work, if a bit slow. I have one connected to a sound system for music and another one used to extend my Airport Extreme.

Any advice or opinions would be more than gratefully appreciated.
