By all accounts, it takes some doing to get fans going on any M1 based machine, Max, pro or normal, even video editing and 3D rendering don't do it, or if they do, it is only a low RPM.
Crazy how efficient those chips are.

I will get a mini with more ram, storage can be sorted via external means, my main drive on this machine is 256GB, so I should be able to cope with that on a MAc.

We will see what happens and how much money I have saved, i have got nearly £800 in the account I set up for it, I can take money from another account if need be, but since I am in no rush, I thought I just stick some money in another account when I get paid.

Still deciding on what to do, Apple or PC, still on the side of Apple, it will kind of be nice to have a machine that just works.

I'd seen that article, but hadn't noticed the extra caveat for later machines... interesting. No indication of what to expect in a 2020 machine upgraded to Monterey 12. Mine is still on Big Sur, but it keeps nagging me to upgrade

When I've got some time to do it properly I might try adding the old RAM just out of curiosity... maybe when I succumb to temptation and extricate the Mac from its corner to stick another 32GB module in there

I don't like that either but I wonder how many people actually do upgrade their machines? Maybe from Apple's point of view the cost of providing the facility in a reasonably idiot-proof way isn't worth it. Their biggest market is likely to be in the US, don't forget

They capture all the revenue. Up front. With an enviable margin. It’s jam for Apple

A friend of mine still has Sierra on her Mac, she thinks that anything after is more like a mobile phone OS, but then I think that about Windows 10 sometimes. The thing is, if she decides to update to a new imac, she will have no choice.

Most people who buy Macs are different to PC users, they just want something that works and not bothered about updating and also they have the money to buy Macs in the first place.

i am not saying all PC users want to update, but most of the ones i know do.

That's what I thought when I read that. Total assumptions are not good reviews of anything.

If he finds the lower configuration is adequate for his needs, which he describes then of course it’s a valid conclusion. It’s actually a better conclusion as if he had a higher configuration how would he know?
Think about it.
