Linux on an iMac

I'm a great fan of Debian, having run it on PCs for a number of years.

I've recently aquired a couple of iMacs and I'm looking to install Linux on them, probably dual booting OSX.

On the few occasions I've worked on Macs I have always found them great and they usually just work. The iMacs seem different though. Had various problems that took a while to sort and installing Linux doesn't seem as straight forward as on PCs. Any recomendations?

Got Debian 12 installed on both iMacs now.

One of the DVD drives doesn't seem to work, so I downloaded the ISO file and dd'd it to a spare hard drive and installed from that.

I understand the DVD drive is a known problem with these old iMacs.
