Apple Keyboard AA Batteries

[link to this post]

Has anyone on here had any experience with the Apple Keyboard (A1314) the one with two rechargeable AA batteries?

Specifically I need to replace the batteries and whilst I would prefer to use rechargeables, most of them appear to have a +ve terminal which barely protrudes from the casing, disabling them from working with the keyboard. Like most Apple kit, this keyboard seems very choosy over what it will work with.

Has anyone encountered this problem and found a make of battery which does work with the keyboard? I believe the originals were Eneloop but since they are unmarked have no way of confirming this.

I have found some Eneloop Pro here, but unless I purchase them have no way of knowing if they will work in this case.

Until I changed my keyboard to a (much better) Logitech MX I used an A1314 with Panasonic Eneloop batteries (although it may have been the model previous to yours). They worked fine and are excellent batteries. In the link you show the terminals seem to protruding plenty enough.

But if you still have problems, have you thought of using a little silver foil to extend the length of the batteries slightly?

Thanks for the reply. I've used the A1314 for years and I think my fingers are used to it. As you say the terminals do appear to protrude well enough so I think I'll give them a try. I will check out the Logitech, so thanks for the tip.

I guess it would be possible to use some silver foil but it's difficult to see what's happening at the bottom of the battery tube. Very easy to get it wrong and short across the positive terminal and the casing.

I used to have similar issues with the mouse batteries.

Tiny’s suggestion of a sliver of foil was the fix I used for that. Neatly cut to a centimetre square worked well as resolution.

My only problem on doing that with the keyboard would be causing a short between the terminal and the casing.

I’ll order some of the Eneloops and see. With the rise of integrated rechargeable batteries, the keyboard is the only thing which uses AA size. The Gigaset handsets use AAA

For the record I ordered a set of AA Eneloop Pros. These have a reasonably protruding cap and so far, work in the A1314 Apple Keyboard straight from the package.

I got them from here. Excellent service and if you have a similar problem contact them and they will be able to suggest a suitable alternative. Protruding versus 'almost flush' terminal caps appears to be a common problem.

No connection with them other than a satisfied customer.
