OLD APPLE IPAD:FIFTH SERIES

[link to this post]

I have acquired an old ipad 5th series, it is in full working order. I have never used Apple products but I am competent on P.C's. I am finding it a little bit difficult to set up correctly.

Is there anywhere I could find simple setting up instructions.

So far I have managed to be refused by Apple to make an account, which I require to "GET" various browser updates etc.

Thanks.

If this is the 5th generation iPad first sold in 2017, the technology will be 9 years old. Most Apple products have around 7 years support. If you want to create an Apple ID (now called Apple Account on newer software) you can do that on the web, at https://account.apple.com

The iPad is limited to iPadOS 16.7.16 which is now 5 versions behind (16, 17, 18, 26, 27). May apps and games available in the App Store may not run due to age.

More about the 5th Gen iPad here, and a picture:

Thanks for your reply.

I am "Playing" with it, more out of interest than actual serious use.
I have enabled Safari and managed to log into Gmail and WhatsApp.
Also an older Firefox browser.....no idea how!!

not sure how you "enabled" safari, as its built in. You can delete built in icons, and then need to use the App Store to recover them. This enables you to lock down using (Screen Time) to stop children messing about.

Other browsers on iPad / iPhone outside of the EU 27 countries are not quite the same as on other systems. Normally on Windows, Mac, Linux using Firefox browser is Gecko engine. On iPhone/iPad the engine is still Safari's webkit, unless you are in the EU 27 countries. You do get the other buttons, syncing tabs, syncing bookmarks and privacy features.

The App Store will supply the last compatible version of any app to the tablet for the iOS version you have. Sometimes this can be too old to connect to the server in the case of tools like WhatsApp or similar.
