Do I need a specific data SIM for Huawei B535 (or similar)?

Do you need to get a specific data only SIM for mobile routers like the Huawei B535 or can you use just a standard voice/text/data SIM deal?

TIA

Standard SIM. All providers should now allow it under Ofcom rules.

Don't be fooled by data allowances though. With some providers unlimited everything can be cheaper than a medium allowance.

Edit: Make sure the router is not locked to a provider.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro, 4G+ (LTE) max 165Mbps down, 24Mbps up on Three Mobile, and B311 4G+ router, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

Ofcom rules cover portable Mifi devices not routers that you plug into the wall so some providers such as Virgin Mobile explicitly prohibit use of their phone sims in a router. It may work but may also get blocked.

I would take the opportunity to migrate away from such a virtual operator. Sticking with the real networks for broadband use is probably a good idea, as in theory they will know exactly what is going on with the radio side of the network as well as the internet side.
